Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 294 Near Willow Road SB Closure Line

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 294 near Willow Road left at least one person with life-threatening injuries and closed the southern lane of the highway as Illinois State Police investigated during rush hour Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, just after 6 a.m. m., a multi-vehicle accident occurred at 46:75, sending one person to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Traffic passed the scene on the right shoulder but then diverted onto Willow Road as all southbound lanes of the interstate were eventually closed.

Drivers seeking an alternate route are urged to exit Lake Cook Road south or take the north exit toward Touhy. River Road and Milwaukee are considered surface road alternatives, according to NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin.

Two others were transported to Lutheran General Hospital, where one is listed in critical condition and the other sustained minor injuries, according to the Glenview Fire Department. 9 people were treated and released at the crash site.

According to the police, all southbound lanes of I-294 were closed for investigation. A person driving erratically caused the accident. Illinois State Police are investigating possible criminal charges.
